2013 Boston Blues Finalist, Robin O’Herin, specializes in historically rich, often interactive concerts that include original and traditional American music, for small listening rooms, libraries, festivals and schools. She has been singing the blues in Europe and across America for over 15 years, sharing the stage with Paul Geremia, Andy Cohen and Roy Bookbinder. Her concerts are warm, affirming experiences she shares with the audience. Let her take you on a journey of musical exploration through the Delta and Piedmont regions of the South. Song selections may include Robert Johnson, Blind Willie Johnson and Robin’s own original blues and fingerstyle ballads. She has had her original music licensed to PBS and has had her songs played on NPR’s CarTalk. As a teaching musician with a degree in Integrated Arts in Education, Robin has created a variety of inter-disciplinary Blues In The Schools Programs which impact English, History, Art and Music, as well as after-school programs and programs for people with special needs. Some of the programs are: Rhythm & Roots (a program for young children exploring the roots of African rhythms); Blues and the poetry of the Harlem Renaissance (for grades 4 and up); Blues, Songwriting and Poetry; The Melting Pot of American Music with Marylou Ferrante and Tap & Blues (with Rhythm Tap Artist Stefanie Weber). Partner organizations she works with include CATA (Community Access for the Arts, Great Barrington, MA)— teaching ukulele and recycled instrument building; RaisingTheBlues.org (nationwide)— Great Barrington, LifeSkills Program—taught for over 10 years for youth with special needs: we build instruments, learn songs and perform for the community; GuitarsInTheClassroom.org (nationwide) teaching teachers to integrate music into classroom curriculum; and RockOn! Band Camp. She has taught songwriting at Rock On! for over 10 years, as well as workshops for all ages in schools and libraries.
